An Attorney’s Homecoming

 In Blog

Who says you can’t go home?

Attorney Michael Gove can. He is returning to his native Ludlow, where he recently took over a law office formerly run by the father of a childhood friend.

Michael has been practicing law for 10 years and runs Gove Law Office in Northampton. In September, he also assumed ownership of Thompson & Bell of Ludlow, the business formerly operated by the late James V. “Jason” Thompson, someone Michael knew well growing up.

Not only was Jason the father of Michael’s friend Sean, but Jason was also the town moderator when Michael served as an elected representative to Ludlow Town Meeting. Michael said Jason was someone he looked up to as a leader in the community, and he was honored when the family invited him to take over the practice after Jason passed away unexpectedly in April.

Michael will run the Ludlow office along with Jason’s associate, Gregory R. Bell. Together, Bell and Gove will cover the Ludlow and Northampton offices.

Michael is 35 and lives in Northampton. We were privileged to be able to draft a press release for him regarding his purchase of the Ludlow practice, which was published in the Daily Hampshire Gazette, The Springfield Republican and Business West’s daily enewsletter. We love telling stories about leaders who give back to the community. And Michael is definitely in those ranks.

He presently serves as a corporator of The Horace Smith Fund, which grants scholarships for Hampden County residents pursuing college or graduate education. He also volunteers for Cooley Dickinson Hospital and serves on the board for Best Buddies of Western Massachusetts. There is a long list of other organizations Michael has volunteered for in the past.

Michael earned his law degree from Boston College School of Law in 2004, after graduating cum laude from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2001.

In 2012 and 2013, he was selected as a Massachusetts Rising Star by Super Lawyers. This is a distinction earned by no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in Massachusetts.

If I was starting my business over, Michael is a lawyer I would definitely trust to turn to for help. He’s an all-around good guy.
