Glenmeadow Helps Community ‘Transform Curiosity Into Knowledge’

 In Blog

Maureen Scanlon’s company, Murre Creative, just delivered the new brochure for the Winter/Spring 2015 session of Glenmeadow Learning, and reading through it calls to mind once again for me how proactive Glenmeadow is in its outreach to the community.

Glenmeadow Learning is an educational offering by the Glenmeadow Retirement community, and through it, each season, a selection of new programs are presented free in the Springfield area. This spring, presentations geared to adults 50 and over, span a wide range.

On March 10 in Wilbraham, for instance, Donald L. Robinson, Smith College Professor Emeritus of Government and American Studies, will offer a talk called “Presidential Primer: A Review of the Obama Administration.” And the series closes with “Finding Your Roots: Genealogy 101,” offered on June 30 in East Longmeadow by Kathy Grady of the Longmeadow Adult Center.

Each of the programs presented over the past three years through Glenmeadow Learning has been free and open to the public; the offerings allow community members of all ages to enrich their learning and keep their minds engaged and active. As the brochure states, each new session of programming “affords the chance to look at things with a fresh perspective… and transform curiosity into knowledge.”

I work with Glenmeadow’s director of marketing, Linda Edwards, to help select speakers and pair them with appropriate venues, and in this role, I have the opportunity to attend the presentations. I am always impressed by the quality of the talks as well as the reception by the audiences. Glenmeadow receives frequent thanks and praise for the gift of these offerings.

Consider these comments, which Glenmeadow collects after each presentation:

“I enjoy the learning. Keep it up!”

“Fantastic.”

“The speaker was excellent, presenting a complex subject so that the average lay person understands.”

I think this all is well-deserved feedback, and I applaud Glenmeadow’s altruistic community give-back. And this is not to mention that Glenmeadow doesn’t just present programming; it presents programming in a gracious, top-shelf, professional manner.
