Glenmeadow Retirement to Sponsor Talk by U.S. Ambassador
Focus on recent elections, events in the Middle East
LONGMEADOW – As part of its community education program, Glenmeadow Retirement will sponsor a talk by U.S. Ambassador Mark Hambley on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Longmeadow Country Club.
Hambley’s talk is the first in this season’s Glenmeadow Learning program. Upcoming talks will focus on topics from travel to self-protection.
Drawing on several visits to the Middle East this year, Hambley will put recent elections and subsequent events in Egypt, Syria and Iraq into context during his presentation, “Middle Eastern Cauldron: Current Developments and Their Impact on the U.S.”
Hambley will also elaborate on how Middle Eastern countries remain relevant in the lives of everyday Americans.

Hambley worked for over 32 years as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer posted in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. He witnessed assassinations, wars, coups, nuclear alerts, revolutions and the hope and despair of peoples of differing religious and ethnic backgrounds.
He was nominated by the president and confirmed by the United States Senate as the U.S. Ambassador to Qatar, Lebanon and the United Nations and won awards for political reporting and managerial expertise at countless difficult negotiations. He lives in Springfield.
Established in 1884, Glenmeadow is a nonprofit, accredited continuing care retirement community; it provides independent and assisted living at its campus at 24 Tabor Crossing in Longmeadow and expanded Glenmeadow at Home services throughout greater Springfield.
