Holistic Health Consultant Offers Free Shiatsu Treatments for Veterans
GREENFIELD — Thomas Schieffer, owner of the Vital Herbalist in Northampton, will offer free Shiatsu treatments for veterans at the Greenfield Community Acupuncture Clinic on the first Wednesday of every month from 5 to 7 p.m.
Schieffer is a clinical herbalist, holistic health consultant and Shiatsu practitioner who specializes in complete holistic lifestyle consulting, digestive health, food allergies, sleep troubles, muscle tension and pain, and restoring vitality.
His monthly Shiatsu treatments for veterans only are offered in conjunction with acupuncture from Karen R. Adams, a licensed practitioner.
“Having body work done changes their mood completely,” Schieffer said. “They come in usually wired tight, and this takes them down a few notches and helps them feel less on the edge. Results are immediate.”

The acupuncture clinic is on a walk-in basis at 345 Main St. No registration is required.
Schieffer worked for 10 years as a military contractor servicing rotorcraft as a flight mechanic and lived on military bases in countries such as Turkey, and Turkmenistan. While he did not experience combat, he developed PTSD from anxiety-producing conditions as a result of exposure to drug trafficking, prostitution and drug and alcohol abuse.
Concerned for his safety, he left the company he worked for eight years ago. He moved to the Pioneer Valley six years ago and now helps others to achieve holistic health.
“I was seeking a healthier and more meaningful existence,” he said. “These sessions offer a way for me to give back and do something I am passionate about.”
