AGAWAM—Glenmeadow will offer an education program on protecting the planet on Tuesday, November 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at Agawam Public Library, 750 Cooper St., Agawam.

“Environmental Responsibility: Taking Steps to Protect Our Planet” is the third and final program in the fall Glenmeadow Learning series, which provides free educational offerings in the community.

The presentation will be led by Terra Missildine, who will speak about how her mission to protect the Earth began and why it’s important for everyone to commit to doing so.

Missildine will also outline what individuals, organizations, and legislators can do to begin to bring about positive change and environmental healing. She will offer samples of earth-friendly products.

Missildine has had a lifelong passion for sustainability. While in an early iteration of a sustainable living program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 2005, she founded Beloved Earth, the first eco-friendly cleaning company in Western Massachusetts.

Since then, the business has blossomed to support 18 team members and still operates by cooperative principles and the values of the triple bottom line: people, planet, and profit. Missildine also helps to support her sustainability and that of her family through running a small suburban homestead, where they grow a fair amount of their own organic food.

Environmental Responsibility is free, but space is limited, and reservations are required. To register, contact Jazlyn Wanzo at jwanzo@glenmeadow.org. For more information, or to register online, visit glenmeadow.org/events.

Glenmeadow Learning is one of many free programs Glenmeadow offers to members of the wider community. It represents only one facet of the life plan community’s mission to serve seniors across the region and to operate as a socially accountable organization.

Established in 1884, Glenmeadow is a nonprofit, accredited life plan community; it provides independent and assisted living at its campus at 24 Tabor Crossing in Longmeadow and expanded Glenmeadow at Home services throughout greater Springfield.

To learn more about Glenmeadow and its history and offerings, visit www.glenmeadow.org.

About Glenmeadow

In the 1800s, elderly individuals without family or means were sent to live at what was called “the poor farm.” In 1884, a group of civic leaders raised funds among themselves and other area families and purchased a house on Main Street in Springfield’s south end, establishing The Springfield Home for Aged Women. Quickly outgrowing that house, land was purchased on the corner of Chestnut and Carew streets, where a new home was constructed and opened in 1900. In 1960, the name was changed to Chestnut Knoll, and, in 1992, it began to admit men.

In 1993, the organization purchased a 23-acre parcel in Longmeadow to build a new community that would provide both independent living and assisted living in one building with various common areas. This was a new concept known as a continuing care retirement community. Existing residents from the old Chestnut Knoll property were moved to the new campus in 1997. Shortly after the move, the board voted to change its legal name to Glenmeadow to coincide with the name being used by the developer of the property.

Continuing care retirement communities are now referred to as life plan communities, responding to the needs of the aging population with new opportunities for care, plus creative, educational and personal exploration. Glenmeadow offerings, which include everything from senior living options and handyman services to personal care and travel programs, are provided at its Longmeadow campus and across the region through Glenmeadow at Home. Glenmeadow strives to fulfill its mission of nurturing the whole person in mind, body, and spirit.

HADLEY—Cultivate & Nest, a collaborative workspace for parents who are entrepreneurs, will host a Family Fair and Work-at-Home Showcase on Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in its Hadley office center.

Terra Missildine, the founder and owner of Cultivate & Nest, said the event will be akin to a table-top expo for “parent-preneurs” who work at home, and it will offer vendor space for both the businesspeople and their children, who may want to display artwork.

A main feature of the showcase will be a panel presentation offering resources and education. Moderated by Missildine, the panel will include: Amanda Kingsley of Alphay International Inc., Tatiana Berindei of Inspired Spiritual Coaching and Young Living, Sandy Skrocki of Arbonne International, and Kerri Sheppard of Usborne Books.

Other highlights of the day will include presentations on topics such as better managing the work-home balance.

All entrepreneurs who work from home are invited to take part in the event. To inquire about vendor space, contact Missildine at Terra@CultivateAndNest.com. A donation of $25 per vendor table is suggested; attendees are also asked to bring a non-perishable item for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.

“People are invited to come learn about the option of working at home, and, for those already working from home, come learn how to achieve a better work-home balance,” Missildine said.

Cultivate & Nest is the first membership-based collaborative workspace in the Valley to incorporate a childcare component. Located on the first floor in the Hadley Crossing business park, Cultivate & Nest offers roughly 3,400 square feet of office space that can be used by “parent-preneurs.”

The first program will be held Sunday, June 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cultivate and Nest, 2 Bay Road in Suite 102.

Terra Missildine, founder of Cultivate and Nest, which opened in January, said the afternoon will offer activities for children of all ages as well as a time for parents to network and enjoy adult conversation. Refreshments will be offered.

“I wanted to create a new space for people to get together and build community,” Missildine said.

The program is free and open to the public and will be offered monthly on the second Sunday of every month. RSVPs are not required but are preferred by contacting Missildine at 413-345-2400 or cultivateandnest@gmail.com.

Cultivate and Nest is a membership-based co-office space that incorporates a child care component. Missildine currently has 24 members but is still accepting membership applications.

The cluster of offices is located on the first floor in the Hadley Crossing business park, with roughly 3,400 square feet dedicated to Cultivate and Nest members. Members pay in cost tiers that range from $100 to $600 per month, depending on amenities and level of office access.

Event and workshop space is also available for members and the community at large to host family friendly events.

The Nest—or kids’ space—at Cultivate and Nest is staffed by an early childhood care specialist from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but access to office spaces is 24-7.

Terra Missildine will offer Archetypes at Work on Tuesday, June 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cultivate and Nest, 2 Bay Road in Suite 100.

The workshop will focus on discovering participants’ personality archetypes and exploring how they can use that knowledge more effectively in their branding and in attracting their ideal clients.

“Participants will have fun and have a chance to be introspective while digging deep to discover who they really are in business and, more importantly, how they are perceived in the marketplace,” Missildine said.

Missildine is an experienced entrepreneur. She and her husband, David, launched Beloved Earth, a green cleaning business, 10 years ago, and she founded Cultivate and Nest, a membership-based co-office space that incorporates a child care component, in January.

The workshop is free, but seats are limited; participants are encouraged to email terramissildine@gmail.com to reserve a spot.

The panel will include Business Coach Doug Foresta of Springfield; the Rev. Hannah Gyovai of Grace Ceremonies in Northampton; and Keely Malone, owner of Wine and Canvas in Springfield. Missildine, the owner of Beloved Earth, a green cleaning business, with her husband, David, and the mother of 1-year-old Aria, will also sit on the panel.

The four will tell their stories of running a business while raising children, and they will offer tips and resources to parents who are entrepreneurs.

Kyle Sullivan, a representative with the John M. Glover Insurance Agency in Holyoke, also a parent, is the venue sponsor for the event.

“My passion is generating conversation, networks and shared resources for awesome parent entrepreneurs,” Missildine said. She believes the discussion panel – and a new entity she created, called Cultivate, the actual sponsor for the day – will help generate collaboration and provide parent entrepreneurs with the necessary resources to help them become better businesspeople and better parents.

With networking in mind, Missildine said the panel discussion will begin with networking from 10 to 10:30 a.m., before the panel discussion begins, and from noon to 12:30 p.m., after the panel has finished.

Missildine will arrange child care for the event so children may attend with their parents. Food and beverages will also be available.

Cultivate is Missildine’s “passion project,” through which she said she aims to make both parenting and entrepreneurship easier and more fulfilling for her colleagues and collaborators.
