DESCO (Diagnostic Equipment Service Corporation) Launches New Dental Service Division in Hadley

 In Client Press Releases

HADLEY—DESCO (Diagnostic Equipment Service Corporation), primarily a medical and research-related service organization, has launched a dental division, called DESCO Dental, expanding the organization’s equipment repair services to private and corporate dental service organizations throughout the state and into Connecticut.

Service technicians from DESCO Dental will maintain and repair dental chairs, vacuum systems, sterilizers and air compressors and provide handpiece tool replacement.

The venture is the latest project of Andrea Bordenca, chairperson and second-generation CEO of DESCO Service.

Bordenca is excited to add dental equipment repair service to the region, in addition to the hospitals, clinics and several hundred surgery centers that DESCO serves. DESCO also services academic institutions such as Harvard, Dana Farber and the University of Connecticut.

Because DESCO Dental will train its new employees, she is enthusiastic about the contribution it can make to workforce development.

“I see an opportunity here,” Bordenca said. “It takes years to train tech support workers in the healthcare and academic institutions we serve because there is such a wide range of equipment and models, but because every dentist office has the same equipment, training for DESCO Dental is a three-month turn around.

“We provide the workforce development,” she added. “That’s the part that excites me the most.”

Bordenca recently hired Ryan Archambault of Southampton to lead the new entity in Massachusetts. Archambault has 30 years’ experience in the dental industry and previously worked as a dental field service technician and has overseen business development.

He is charged with growing DESCO Dental in Western Massachusetts and into Connecticut.  DESCO is already in conversations to expand in Miami and Jacksonville, Florida; Raleigh, North Carolina; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Atlanta, Georgia, in 2026.

“I want to grow,” Bordenca said. “Demand for skilled dental repair professionals has grown significantly across the country as dental practices face the same challenges hospitals and biomedical departments encounter: maintaining reliable equipment to ensure safe and effective patient care. There’s an aging workforce in dental on the repair side and several thousand new dental offices open each year.”

The idea for a dental division of DESCO came last spring when Darrine Miller, a leader from the firm UptimeHealth, contacted DESCO to collaborate. UptimeHealth offers software, service and equipment to its clients and partners with independent service organizations across the country. Miller wanted to partner with DESCO Dental on UptimeHealth’s service offerings.

Bordenca credits UptimeHealth and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation for raising the profile of dental technology repair, which is now recognized as part of the healthcare technology management industry.

DESCO is committed to fostering opportunities for individuals of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels. Plans are in progress for an internship program that provides hands-on experience and exposure to the dental repair field, with opportunities to transition into full-time positions offering healthcare benefits and competitive salaries.

Individuals interested in applying for a position with DESCO Dental and leaders from area community colleges or vocational schools interested in partnering on training can email [email protected] for more information.

DESCO serves much of the East Coast, working with customers across 17 states. The company maintains an office in Doral, Florida, and its home base is located at Venture Way Collaborative—a complex developed by Bordenca in 2020 at 200 Venture Way in Hadley. The building also functions as a corporate venue and houses the headquarters of three local organizations: The Queer Valley Library, Shraddha Yoga, and Long River Tai Chi.
