Event will be held on Nov. 18 in West Springfield

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Glenmeadow Retirement will sponsor a talk called “Armed with Awareness: Keeping Safe in Your World” in Storrowton’s Carriage House on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Deborah Halpin, the founder of ArmHer, an organization that teaches on self-protection, will be the final presenter in the fall Glenmeadow Learning series.

ArmHer works with nonprofits, colleges, hospitals and law enforcement agencies to help protect women against violence and assault. Halpin founded the company after the safety and security of her home and family were threatened by crime.

Halpin will share tips on how men and women can both protect themselves while shopping, driving and on vacation. She will also share advice on effective and affordable criminal deterring devices that could potentially save a life.

Storrowton is located at 1305 Memorial Avenue. Seating for the program is limited, and registration is required; call (413) 567-7800 or email learning@glenmeadow.org. Visit glenmeadow.org/learning for more information.

Halpin has a master’s degree in business administration from Western New England University and is a graduate of the Springfield Police Department Citizens Police Academy.

Established in 1884, Glenmeadow is a nonprofit, accredited continuing care retirement community; it provides independent and assisted living at its campus at 24 Tabor Crossing in Longmeadow and expanded Glenmeadow at Home services throughout greater Springfield.

“As a nonprofit, our mission is to serve seniors and their families. One of the ways we do that is by providing free educational offerings in convenient locations throughout the area,” said Tim Cotz, president and CEO.
