Keeping Your Website Alive

 In Blog
It pains me when I see a business owner letting his website slide into oblivion—like the owner of a local restaurant that I frequent.
While he’s a great chef, he fails to place importance on keeping his website up to date. When I checked the site in May, it still said the establishment was closed one night a week, even though they’d previously reopened to seven nights.

Now, in mid-August, the site is touting the “spring menu,” even though I know they are serving basil, tomatoes, corn and other locally-grown produce and should be calling attention to that.
Ouch. Big mistake, in my mind.
A website should not be a static facet of any business or organization. Some sections – such as a history section – can certainly remain constant, but sections that discuss services, staff and the mission must grow and change just as the business or organization grows and changes.
Is it time to view your website with a fresh eye? Consider these points:
  • Does your website accurately reflect your staff? Your hours of operation? Your mission?
  • Have your services changed or expanded? Does your website capture the essence of all your services and offer a synopsis on all you offer?
  • Has your business produced videos it could be sharing on the website?
  • Have you received an award or been mentioned in the news? Is notice of that on your site?
  • Are your testimonials from recent clients or from clients you served three years ago?
  • Are you keeping your blog section up to date, writing about news and industry trends that affect your client base?
Not everyone has time to evaluate and reevaluate their site on a regular basis, but don’t let it just slip through the cracks. It’s worth the investment to find someone who can do the maintenance for you.
