Area Lawyer to Teach Elder Law and Estate Planning Classes at HCC

HOLYOKEAttorney Karen G. Jackson of Jackson & Torrone, P.C., will teach classes on Elder Law and Estate Planning at Holyoke Community College on Mondays, April 28, May 5 and May 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Jackson, a noted elder law attorney who has conducted this popular course at HCC five times, will explain estate planning and significant elder law issues.  The importance of each document in the core estate plan will be addressed, as well as the different types of trusts, including supplemental needs trusts, revocable trusts and irrevocable trusts.

Jackson will also review the Probate Court Guardianship and Conservatorship processes and explain what happens when proper documents are not prepared before the loss of mental capacity, as well as discuss the Probate Court process and how to determine which assets must go through probate.

In addition, Jackson will discuss programs that provide financial assistance for community and long-term skilled nursing care, such as the various Medicaid programs.
