Glenmeadow Learning Offers Summer Cooking with a Celebrated Chef
Talk scheduled for May 19 in West Springfield
WEST SPRINGFIELD – Glenmeadow Retirement will offer a multifaceted presentation by James Beard Award-winning chef Sanford D’Amato on Tuesday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Storrowton Carriage House.
During his presentation, “From Garden to Table: A Celebrated Chef Creates with Summer Herbs,” D’Amato will discuss his background, read from his memoir – GOOD STOCK: Life on a Low Simmer, which includes recipes – and discuss herbs that can be used through the summer season.
D’Amato will close the event with a cooking demonstration.
D’Amato graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1974 and worked in various New York City restaurants through the 70s. In 1980, he returned home to Milwaukee to eventually open Sanford Restaurant with his wife, Angie, in the site of his grandfather’s and father’s grocery store. The D’Amatos achieved the highest Zagat Guide rating given for food and service during their 23 years of ownership.
Sanford D’Amato has received numerous national awards and accolades in the media during his career, including being personally chosen by Julia Child to cook for her 80th birthday, and preparing a luncheon for His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.
D’Amato and his wife now operate Good Stock Farm in Hatfield and lead demonstration or hands-on cooking classes followed by lunch or dinner. The March 2015 issue of Food & Wine Magazine recently recognized Good Stock Farm as one of six best new cooking schools in the country.
