The Big Reach: Kyle Sullivan

 In Blog

Kyle Sullivan is a member of my BNI. As vice president, he never stops working to help his fellow members grow their businesses and to help the Mill River chapter grow as well.

That’s because Kyle takes very seriously BNI’s mantra of Giver’s Gain: Help others succeed and success will come back to you.

In Kyle’s case, that has worked.

A commercial lines coverage specialist with the John M. Glover Insurance Agency in Holyoke, Kyle was named the Western Massachusetts Regional Member of the Year for BNI in December.

The award recognizes a member who goes above and beyond in helping others to grow their businesses. Kyle was recognized for his work across the entire region. He is young – only 28. He is full of energy, and he has compassion for others.

That gives him a leg up in the insurance industry. He is not working to make money. He is working to keep others safe and well-protected. His work comes from the heart.

Kyle has been a member of the BNI Mill River Chapter in Northampton since March 2011.

Tim Roberts, executive director for BNI Western Massachusetts, said, “We have so many members doing amazing things and helping each other reach new levels of success. It is never easy to pick a Member of the Year, but this year Kyle Sullivan stood out for always giving his all for the betterment of others both in BNI and in the community.”

We at Beetle Press say: You go Kyle!

We were pleased to be able to help Kyle spread the word about his award last month. We sent out a press release for him, and he received coverage in several area newspapers, including BusinessWest.

Kyle has worked for the Glover agency for five years and is a third-generation insurance agent, working with his dad, John Sullivan.

Kyle works with businesses to educate them about the types of risks associated with their business and helps them reduce the chances of a loss through policies. Last year, he was voted “most valuable participant” by class members at the Hartford School of Insurance when he was designated as the commercial lines coverage specialist.

Kyle wears many other hats as well.

He is actively involved with Leadership Pioneer Valley, a program that trains emerging leaders from the community – including nonprofits and business and government organizations – through a nine-month leadership development program. Kyle is a member of the Class of 2014.

He is also a new board member of Junior Achievement of Western Massachusetts, teaching entrepreneurship courses at local high schools, including East Longmeadow High School, as well as elementary schools. And as if that isn’t enough to keep one busy and challenged, Kyle also serves on the events committees and various subcommittees for the Northampton Area and Young Professionals Society of Greater Springfield. And he is also a board member of the Holyoke Blue Sox.

I don’t know how Kyle does it, actually. Where he finds the time and the energy.

Kyle says he believes in working smarter – not harder – and focusing as much on helping others as on helping yourself. Plus, he says: “Doing things for other people feels great so we all end up winners when helping people.”
